The Day Was Perfect!

About mid-day, we headed over to the beach, with one
purpose in mind.
We were celebrating the Mister's birthday.
As we drove across the Clearwater Memorial Causeway,
we both agreed this was the perfect time...no tourist traffic
and the weather had cooled down.
I could hardly wait to put my feet in the white sand,
and noticed that already it felt cool.
As we rounded the sand dunes, it was apparent
right away that the ocean breezes were stronger
than we had anticipated.  I struggled with my long
white cotton skirt, in effort to keep my dignity.
A yellow caution flag, on the Life-Guard shack
was whipping back and forth, in effort to warn swimmers.....
but there were no swimmers.
A line of yellow umbrellas
covered mostly adult people,
 perhaps early Snow Birds,
northern folks beginning winter holiday.
We dined on
grouper and shrimp,  at a familiar place. We've
enjoyed Frenchy's with an ocean view
for a number of years.
Keeping with the color theme of the day,
I took photos of beautiful yellow
flowers growing along the beach drive,
and we headed back home.
-
We both agreed, the day had been perfect!

.....I walked a country road barefooted

Dirt Roads
I came across a dirt road, and thought I heard it say,
I know you've driven asphalt, but please turn down this way.
And so I answered the dirt road, and walked down it's first mile,
The things I saw as I trudged on, caused me to slow and smile.
-
The dust that played beneath my feet, and swirled so gently round,
Brought a smile unto my weary face, and chased away my frown.
It brought back memories I had of days so long forgotten, when
mostly there were dirt roads, and driving was so slow.
I saw the butterflies long side, on flowers that grew tall,
And saw a rabbit dart across, and heard an eagle's call.
-
I saw great trees that furnished shade, tall reaching for blue sky,
they gave needed cooling from hot sun to all those who passed by.
And then I passed a rundown house, and felt a twinge of alarm,
It won't be long till nothings left, where once there was a farm.
And then I thought of it's future, when the dirt road too is gone,
Encroaching grass along the edge, tells me it won't be long.
-
Until the road has disappeared from all but memory, and I
wished with all my heart the road could tell it's history.
That it could tell me all about and I could hear it say,
"I am the very thing that caused them all to move away."
~Loree (Mason) O'Neill
-
When I finished this little painting, I began
thinking of the last time I walked a country road,
barefooted. Decidedly, it's been a long while.
This beautiful poem by Loree O'Neill
could have been written from my memories.
I hope you've enjoyed it.

Out With The Old, In With The New

Finally,
the weather has cooled off
and now I can do
a bit of re-potting.
All summer long,
with temps in the 90s.... I've had to
daily, water  the coleus, caladiums
and periwinkle that
inhabited this same pot seen in the photos.
It was  important to me that
they stay  pretty, considering their
first impression  location
by the front door of my little cottage.
-
Keeping them healthy  attractive and alive
has been a true summer "labor of love,"
factoring in the extreme hot weather conditions.
-
So today, it was out with the old plants
and in with the new greens and purples.
Call me kinda funny, but
it was good to just put my fingers
down in the dark rich
earthy smelling soil.
-
What do you think?
I'm very pleased...with my efforts and the results.

A Wooded Place

"Hallo, Roo!" called Piglet.
"What are you doing?"
"We can't get down, we can't get down!" cried Roo.
"Isn't it fun? Pooh, isn't it fun, Tigger and I  are
living in a tree, like Owl, and we're going to stay
here for ever and ever. I can see Piglet's house.
Piglet, I can see your house from here. Aren't we high?
~A.A. Milne's The World Of Pooh

Tall White Birch trees call home
 the Adirondack mountains.
Lovely photo taken by our daughter......
Experiencing fall vicariously through her
it is easy to imagine a warm
sunny day walk in a
beautiful wooded place.

Prayer.....

Lord, purge our eyes to see
Within the seed a tree
Within the glowing egg a bird,
Within the shroud a butterfly.
Till, taught by such we see
Beyond all creatures, Thee....

Ornamental Cabbages

They'll be in the flower shops before long,
and I can hardly wait.
Ornamental Cabbages come in a
variety of gorgeous shapes and colors.
Here in Florida we have to wait for
the temps to drop into the 60s
before planting these.
I hope I can find some as pretty as
these shown, compliments of Google Images.
-
While our northern friends and family
are thinking fall colors of red, orange and yellows,
I'm thinking of pink cabbages......
what a world we live in.

Falling From My Oak Tree

Acorns and leaves are falling from the
large oak tree in my front yard.....
with a little help from the squirrels.
They fall in bunches a lot like this
little painting.
I've been doing a lot of sidewalk and
porch sweeping.  How about you?
I don't mind so much, I know
the little raskels are busy
storing up food for the winter.
-
Can you believe it's Friday?
Have a good time, whatever it is
you plan to do.
