Whimsy In The Garden

I love this time of year.  All the planting
accomplished a few weeks ago,  and
now we're watching the growing.
 I couldn't be more pleased
with our little garden...the small size
enables us to easily care for it.

Small gardens nearly always require a bit
of whimsy....and so it is we've introduced
sweet birdies this week.

Never before have the Coleus grown to these sizes
so quickly....must be that Miracle Gro special soil.

I wonder what the Mockingbirds and Mourning Doves
think of these whimsical parrots?

Into all our lives, in many simple, familiar, homely
ways, God infuses this element of joy from the
surprises of life, which unexpectedly brighten our
days, and fill our eyes with light.~Longfellow

My Climbing Rose Is Blooming

I set this pretty climbing Rose out about
seven weeks ago.  It had multi colored blooms
all over it at that time. They were growing in
gorgeous clusters....much like a Floribunda Rose.
 I watched as the blooms
dried up and dropped to the ground.  I also
wondered  if it would grow
in the location I had selected.  This past
week the rains came.....and they came
for several days. The Rose began producing
new leaves, and as you can see, my
climbing Rose began producing buds.

Florida has sandy soil, not the ideal
for planting Roses.  I used a Miracle Grow
top soil mixture, following directions
carefully, mixing it with the dirt from the hole.

The Rose plant seems to be thriving....
and the Mister and I are needless to say,
quite pleased.

My visual is to have Roses covering an
arch over our garden pathway.....
beautiful multi-colored Roses....sigh.

give you the desires of your heart. ~Psalm 37:4-6

Yellow Beach Cactus Bloom

We drove out to Honeymoon Island today,
heading straight to our favorite unexplored
location...Growing on the pathway leading to the
Gulf waters, we came upon this
beautiful blooming cactus.

Knowing so little of the cactus, I turned
to my Merriam-Webster dictionary.....

finding it  a drought resistant flowering plant,
having succulent stems and leaves with prickles.

I have, however encountered prickly nettles
and thistles in my fingers.....perhaps in my youth.
Once pricked by the cactus, I learned of it's
warning and danger.

Today I stood my distance from the beautiful
cactus adorned with thorns and yellow flowers,
while taking numerous photos. Seen here are a
few of my favorites.

Have a wonderful week, everyone.   Dee Dee

My New Pride And Joy

It appeared to me that the flower shop of
our local Ace Hardware store, had been
newly stocked with gardening plants. This
is where I sometimes find beautiful and
unusual flowering plants.  In the midst of
what appeared to be a sea of pink Desert Rose
plants, I found one lone white Desert Rose.
What a treasure....and now my new
"pride and joy."

The first thing I did, was place it on the bistro
table in the garden....oooed and ahhhhd over
it a bit while taking photos.  This pretty thing
will have a more elaborate container, I've
determined....requiring a bit more poking around
in the garden shops.

Having always loved the pink Desert Rose....

I'm now finding a stronger attraction
to the white ones.....sigh....

It isn't the great big pleasures that count
the most; it's making a great deal out of
the little ones. ~Jean Webster

Pretty Potted Plants

The rains came hours after I finished
planting new flowering plants in my
clay pots....readying them for summer.
Nothing can match the nutrients coming
from the heavens......
So sweet plants are blooming and
thriving.

I could not be satisfied with taking just
a few images of these pretty things
to show off......

Still a favorite.....my Coleus are making
quite a show......

I found this image on Pinterest

Art by Vincent van Gogh......seems
Mr Gogh had a fondness for Coleus as well.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend.....Dee Dee

Small Bloom On The Desert Rose

Our Desert Rose lay dormant much of the winter.
At one point it began leafing out, as though it were
spring time.  A cold snap damaged the small delicate
leaves and they dropped off.  I wondered when or if
we would see the sweet Rose blooms this year at all.
I watched as the leaves came and then last
week was delighted in a tiny pink bud.

It's small, but oh so very beautiful, this
new Desert Rose bloom.

Some of the leaves are abnormal in appearance,
but I'm glad to see them.

Welcome, sweet cottage Desert Rose.....
we are glad to see you.

Have a wonderful day!  Dee Dee
