For Mother's Day

Never, ever thought I would have
so much pleasure with my new Kindle Fire, but having
access to so many wonderful books is just beyond
words.  I never thought I would enjoy reading
this way......having loved all their is about reading books,
the old fashioned way.  A short tutorial given by my daughter,
changed my mind completely.
Today, I've been poking around, finding new and interesting Apps.....
can we select too many?  Lovin' the graphics, especially when
I go to my Pinterest site.

I selected a few reads.......
Once Blind, by John Newton
A to Z with C. S. Lewis and
10 People Every Christian Should Know
and......
for Bible study.....Matthew Henry's
commentary on the whole Bible.

Be still my heart!

I'm completely happy and fascinated
with my Mother's Day gift.

Have a sweet ole' day, everyone.  Dee Dee

Imagine

Spring Plowing
West of Omaha the freshly plowed fields
steam in the night like lakes.
The smell of the earth floods over the roads.
The field mice are moving their nests
to the higher grounds of fence rows,
the old among them crying out
to the owls to take them all.
The paths in the grass are loud with the
squeak of their carts.
 They keep their lanterns covered.

Enjoying the poetry of Ted Kooser.....Dee Dee

Think On This

Be like the bird.
That, pausing in her flight
Awhile on boughs too slight,
Feels them give way
Beneath her and yet sings,
Knowing that she hath wings.

Beyond Our Asking

Whatever we ask for falls short of God's giving,
For His greatness exceeds every facet of living.

Random Garden and Porch Images

I bought several little pots of Coleus plants at
Lowe's yesterday.  I loved the variety they offered
this year.....tiny delicate leafed plants....so sweet.

I placed them on the porch table for a bit, enjoying
the look.  I'll eventually plant them in a nice orange
clay pot.....one of those traditions passed from my
grandmother to me.  Wouldn't be the same having
a summer without these pretty things.

I've tried to take photos showing just how delicate
and beautiful the leaves are.....

They look real nice setting in an old galvanized
wire basket for now.....

I startled the Dove and it startled me as it flew from the
birdbath to the fence.

I took a few photos of the Mourning Dove, filled the birdbath and left the
garden to my little friend.

Lovin' this time of year and wishing we had
these gorgeous temps year round.
Have a sweet ole' day, everyone.  Dee Dee

Welcome Mr and Mrs Brown Thrasher

I had no sooner filled the birdbath with fresh cool water,
than Mr and Mrs Brown Thrasher came for morning baths.
It was easy to tell the male Thrasher, him having such
beautiful rich colored feathers.  He was the one to go
first with the bath, either showing his dominance, or
his sweetness of testing the water temp for his "lady bird."
I like to think it was the latter.
In order to take photos and not disturb the bathers,
I zoomed my camera lens through a Hibiscus plant.

Her ladyship soon had the bath to lavish in for as long
as she liked.....

Once bathed, she took her time doing a bit of preening.....

With feathers thoroughly cleaned, she stood on the
birdbath ledge watching her mate with a great deal
of curiosity.

Hidden from their view, clicking off one photo after
another......I was so appreciating these precious
moments up close and personal with nature.

Have a sweet ole' day......Dee Dee

Remembering George Beverly Shea

All during my youth........
Sunday evenings found my family gathered around
the television to hear Billy Graham preach.  The
program always began with America's beloved Gospel
singer, George Beverly Shea.  I remember the songs,
and that beautiful voice, as if it were yesterday.
How Great Thou Art
I'd Rather Have Jesus
The Love Of God

At the Billy Graham crusades, Shea's voice prepared
the audience for Billy Graham.
Through music and proclaiming the Word of God,
Beverly Shea and Billy Graham shared the saving
faith of Jesus Christ to millions.

Thank you, dear brother in Christ, for sharing your
beautiful songs with us.  We will see you again! Dee Dee

Think On This

Future Blessings

God has seasons in our lives......
He is creating something you'll enjoy in the future.
You may not understand it today, but a month or
year later, you'll experience the benefits of new
growth He was watering. ~Whispers Of Blessing

Might we relax just a bit, and have that awesome
peace, allowed for those who trust in our Maker?

We must not be discouraged by the world,
no matter what the day brings, give thanks to the Lord.....Dee Dee

Simple Blessings

Ah....that we all might have an epiphany.....a
blessed joyous understanding of God's will for our lives.

To find the universal elements enough; to find the air
and water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning
walk or an evening saunter......to be thrilled by the
stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a
wildflower in spring....these are some of the rewards
of the simple life. ~J Burroughs

Have a wonderful Lord's day.....Dee Dee

Saturday's Garden Images

It's sixty nine degrees here in Florida.....
yesterday ninety degrees.  So you can see that
spring is bordering on summer almost at the same
time.  I welcome the overcast skies and cooler
weather, hoping to set out a couple of new plants.
Once the heat sets in, there will be no more working
in the garden.....just setting back and admiring all
our efforts and enjoying each new bloom.
The basket of pink Mandevilla captured my
camera's interest this morning.

I'm pleased with these photos.....
having zoomed through the branches
of a tall Hibiscus plant.....

I'm loving the whole composition......

Needless to say, I am partial to the
pinks seen throughout the garden....

As I type, I am listening to Skyfall by Adele.....
love her voice and the movie was great.

Hope your having a beautiful weekend.....Dee Dee

Redecorating The Earth

Growing up, I liked nothing better than to
run and play, in our valley, with my little friends.
We picked green clover and counted the
leaves. The clover flowers we twirled beneath one
another's chins, because it tickled.
These images, taken in upstate New York,
in recent times, remind me of those days.....
"how green was my valley."

I'm so thankful for warm and sunny days.......
for the seasons expected and reliable to change
in exact order and time.
They are reminders of God's love for
us.... it too is dependable and reliable.

I hope your enjoying watching the world change
before your eyes, as God redecorates the earth.  Dee Dee

Opportunities Everywhere

Embrace the wonder and excitement each day
brings.  For tomorrow affords us new
opportunities.....time to experience....time to create...
time to reflect.....time to dream. ~K. Williams

I hope your taking advantage of the beautiful
spring weather.  Our northern family and friends
are busy setting out sweet peas and other early
spring crops in the garden.

Sending up prayers for the families in Boston.

In His grace.....Dee Dee

Home Town Images

In more recent times, folks gathered in
Hitchcock Woods, located in Aiken South Carolina,
for the "Blessing of the hounds."
As you can see, beautiful horses and hounds were
in attendance.

Gotta love this fella........

Lovin' hounds, horses and hometown happenings.

Red Hibiscus In The Garden

The wind is blowing, and the skies are cloudy
this morning. I opened a window and leaned
out to take photos of the red Hibiscus growing
close by ......the lighting was perfect.

We planted the Hibiscus plant between two large
palm trees and have allowed it to grow tall.

The flower blooms come each morning and by late afternoon
they will have dropped to the ground.

I noticed tiny sugar ants on the blooms this morning
and will use a systemic to rid them.....
Flowering plants need lots of attention here in Florida.

I post often on the flowers blooming in our garden....

Lots going on, I'm seeing tiny buds on just about everything
......don't you love spring?

Have a beautiful day, everyone.  Dee Dee

Garden Images and Nandina Love

We're having an absolutely gorgeous day here on the
gulf coast of Florida. Spring is bursting out all over, and I,
for one, am feeling rejuvenated!
While planting a new climbing rose, a labor of love,
I couldn't help but notice a new look in the garden.
The Nandina bushes are spectacular.....perhaps at their
peak in spring blossoms. Not wanting to miss the
best of the blooms, I used a setting on my camera,
new to me, to get in close.  My focus was on one tiny bloom....
appears as a small daisy in the center of this photo.

I clipped a nice stem of the Nandina and placed it in an
old turquoise bell jar. Again, my camera focus was on one
tiny bloom.  I achieved what I set out to......
...lovin' the results.

And, quite lovely indeed ......the beautiful
turquoise in the garden.

Enjoying the moments....
and so glad you stopped by today......Dee Dee

Salmon-Pink Peace Lily

I had so much fun taking photos
of this gorgeous Peace Lily....

The afternoon sun was streaming in through
our front door, so I brought the Lily out into
the middle of the floor......
It looked amazing with the light
making the leaves appear transparent.
My original intentions were to place it on
the porch.....maybe eventually.
For now, it will have a place in our
cottage living room.  Sigh.....

Mighty pretty....

Have a blessed day, everyone.  Dee Dee

Calla Lily

I found them irresistible sitting midst all the
potted plants.  More often seen in a bridal
bouquet, the Calla Lily is like none other
in use of the word elegant.

I thought them charming placed beside an
antique dresser mirror......

I'm glad you stopped by.....
and wish you a most perfect day!  Dee Dee
