Lovely And Unusual Growth

This morning I was hanging
 the laundry and the Mister
was trimming and thinning out
a large cluster of palm trees,
in the garden.
As he clipped away, palm
fronds falling  to the ground,
he discovered something quite
unusual looking growing on the trees.
Notice the pod hanging from the palm
in this photo..........

Hidden beneath all the growth, was something
lovely and actually quite  beautiful.

We had found delicate stems of berries,  some in the beginning
stages of blooming. It will be interesting to see
how they develop.

The trimming is now completed, and all the
excessive growth is cleared away. Very soon, this
portion of the garden will have a new look.
Our new plants will  be drought
resistant.  We're thinking a nice variety
of Crotons and lovely pink Mandevilla
to cover the fence.
When their buds burst open,
you see for yourselves and know
that summer is now near.

Natures Quiet Presence

I stood still in the
woodlands, observing.......
With quiet wings,
a dragonfly flew by,
and landed on
a small branch draped
with delicate spider webs.

I felt alone while standing
under the umbrella of
 the live oak trees.
The woods
were quiet, and seemingly
void of any living thing.
Breaking the silence,
a small grey
squirrel scampered
 up close to me.
One of the gentlest of all
birds is the Mourning Dove.
They were a pair, and I
 watched them,
 on this quiet morning,
 in our cottage garden.
Sometimes,
peace and solitude are
needed.  Nothing too much;
nothing wanting.
Have a wonderful day! Dee Dee

Now Where Did I Put It?

I was determined to begin my
"new babies" sewing this morning.
But, where was my
"pin cushion?"
After searching high and low,
it suddenly occurred to me where my
"pretty hand-made pin cushion" was.....
it was in Boston Massachusetts!!!
You see, about two months ago, we
had a mission's conference at our
church and each missionary family
had made a "wish list" of things
needed. One sweet lady, mother of
five children had requested a nice
sewing kit.  I could see why she
might need this from time to time,
so I set out to make her request complete.
I began compiling  all sorts of sewing
and mending tools , and
to complete the sewing kit,
I tucked in my favorite
"pretty hand-made pin cushion."

Somewhere in Boston,
a new Baptist Church is being
planted and my pin cushion
is serving in some capacity,
for the Lord's work,
being completed there......and
that's a good thought!

Today,
my good fortune was
finding a bit of the
older pin cushion fabric,
I had tucked away.
In no time at all, I had
hand stitched another cushion,
and was readied for "new babies" sewing.

Have a sweet ole day.....Dee Dee

A Summer Read

I visited my library re-sale bookstore
this past weekend, looking for good reads
to take on vacation.  I found the perfect
book for me, for the fact that I am
fascinated with historical figures.

"The World's Great Letters"
is a book
 filled with private communications
of the foremost people of world history
ranging from Alexander the Great and
Saint Paul the Apostle, to Thomas Jefferson
and Napoleon Bonaparte.

I do wonder at the disappearance
of hand written letters,
in this era of Internet, Texting
and Voice Mail.

Hmmm....Christopher Columbus reports his
first impressions of America to the court of Spain.

P. T. Barnum offers General Ulysses S. Grant
a job.  "I will gve you one hundred
thousand dollars cash...."

This does seem a lovely book,
and my curious mind wants to know more,
and as much as possible.

Have a beautiful day everyone!......Dee Dee

So Pretty Zinnias

My potted Zinnias are having
a bit of a struggle now
that the Florida temps have
been in the 90s.....

I am faithful to pick off the
dead blooms encouraging
others to come along....

and they are doing so now,
although slowly.  They are
so beautiful and I am showing
favoritism for the white Zinnias
this year.

A spiritual thought for today.....

God's holy beauty comes near you
like a spiritual scent, and it stirs
your drowsing soul.....He creates
in you the desire to find Him
and run after Him.....to follow
wherever He leads you, and to
press peacefully against His heart
wherever He is.

Have a beautiful day....Dee Dee

They're Called Celosia

We began our Saturday with
a wake-up phone call.
Seven year old grandson
had an early morning
Upward flag football game.
He's good..... a really good
quarterback and I have lots
of action photos for happy
memories.
Back home, and
with  my adrenalin still
excellerated, I thought to myself
 why let this energy go
to waste....

....so I put on my garden
gloves and proceeded  with
potting those new annuals
I brought home yesterday.
They're called
Celosia and that's
just about all I know about
them. Not so hard the
planting part and they look
real nice in this fancy
oblong clay container.

When I finished planting
and watering, I found  the
best place for the arrangement
to be right on this ole garden chair.

I'm real pleased with this
little arrangement and
when the Bougainvillea
climbs on up the fence....well
all I can say is "look out"
.......things are going
to look real pretty.
May your life be sweet this Lord's day......Dee Dee
